A £200m investment proposal is currently being put forward which if approved will see Telford Shopping Centre extensively refurbished and extended.
To add to this, the single largest investment Telford has seen to date is in full swing at the heart of the town (adjacent to Telford Shopping Centre and Telford Town Park). The £250m Southwater development will transform central Telford delivering Town Centre living, new leisure facilities and convention quarter. Attracting over £70m of private investment for the first phase of the development alone, Southwater will create in excess of 300 jobs while also securing existing employment. The development includes an 85 bed premier inn hotel; a purpose built leisure complex comprising of an 11 screen cinema and Telford ice rink, to complement the existing facilities such as Mecca Bing and Tenpin Bowling; Restaurants such as Bella Italia, Wagamamas, Harvester, Zizzi’s, Nandos, Pizza Express and Chimichange; New library and media centre with high quality public realm around Telford town Park’s lake.
Telford also has six borough towns each with their own history and charm. These smaller towns are also benefiting from ongoing investment, delivering leisure and community facilities, shops and employment opportunities – along the banks of the river seven in Ironbridge visitors will find high quality bistros and restaurants and in other borough towns such as Wellington visitors can explore the bustling historic market place.
